■Chapter.1
As Speedhunters had their 10th anniversary, it was 10th anniversary for The Cheonicles. I was happy to be able to attend their special day.
When you live in Japan, you don’t see much knockoff products. But once you go to the other country, you would be surprise how easy to get knockoff products out there. If you are not strong in faith, it would be hard for you to stay away from knockoff products.
The reason why The Chronicles always have such a high quality built cars would be because they are strong in faith. And keep seek the real stuff.
It’s not hard to build a modern modified car with knockoff parts, but it’s meaningless. There aren’t many influencers who actually import real Japan made parts and use them correctly to build a car. Joey does.
■Chapter.2
That Eibach parking lot was about an hour away by a car from my hotel Marina del Rey. Even though it was end of the October, it was over 30℃. Koyorad USA Scott who knows my sensitivity to the hear said “Its too hot for you isn’t it?” as soon as he saw me. Yes, it was too hot. Someone was selling bottle of water from Costco for more than $3 but I bought it anyways.
Once I walked in to the show area, there were magazine cover car, Super-taikyu Spoon S2k I just saw at Type-One few weeks ago, and Philip’s EG at the gate. Philips EG got GT Award in 2017 and will be show up in the GTSports.
There was not only Honda but Raul’s HR31 painted traditional Calsonic blue was there.
■Chapter.3
Jonny’s FK8 I wanted to see in person the most. First time American and Japanese Honda share the same body in a long time in this Civic. FK8’s image color is Blue, but Jonny’s coloring was by lapping.
After Rays and Titan7, he got Desmond Regamaster revival at the show. They weren’t matt black like old Regamaster but gross black paint matches with the newer shape cars like this FK8. His FK8 is not like “TRACK STANCE” cars look fast. It’s actually fast, and the balance of show car/track car in this car is phenomenal, just like Masuda-san’s FIT was.
In Japan, many of them tried too hard and end up too much.
■Chapter.4
Since, I could be there only few house, that I couldn’t see AE86 displayed at Koyorad booth. It got flat tire on the way and couldn’t make it while I was there. So I asked Koyorad Scott. “Ryohei from Lowbrain really really wants to see the car so please take photo for him”
And that’s why there are pictures of this AE86 are here. Special thanks to Scott.

2018年という年に10周年を迎えたSpeedhunters。そして、Joey率いるThe Chroniclesも同じく10周年を迎えた。その貴重なタイミングで自分が渡米している事の有難みを感じずにはいられない。
日本に住んでいると、模造品を手に入れる環境は少ない。しかし、日本の外に出れば安くて質の悪いコピー商品が一般的な想像を超えるレベルで氾濫しており、信念のレベルが低いユーザーが容易に手を出しやすい環境だ。
そう、The Chroniclesにここまで高水準なクルマが集結するには長年積み上げられた信念強さ、言うならば道を踏み外さないリアルな物だけを探求し続けたからだ。
コピー商品で簡単に”今風のクルマ”は作れるけれど、その先にある世界は何もない。
国土の広いアメリカで極東の日本製パーツを入手し、正しい方向へ導いてくれるインフルエンサーの存在というのは、片手で数えるだけしか存在しないだろう。
それがまさにJoeyなのだ。
■Chapter.2
あのお馴染みのEibachの休日の駐車場へは、滞在しているMarina Del Reyからクルマで1時間弱。比較的過ごしやすい気候の海岸沿いとは異なり、10月の終わりかけにも関わらず灼熱のCoronaエリア。
冬を間近にひかえて気温30℃越えの恐ろしい世界に、私の暑がりっぷりを知っているKoyorad USAのScottが「おまえ！熱いだろ（笑）」っと出迎えてくれた。
そう、熱すぎる！
コストコで大量仕入れしたであろうチープなミネラルウォーターが$3以上で路肩に売られていたが、買わずにはいられない。
会場に足を踏み入れると、有名雑誌のカバーカーから、数週間前に日本のType Oneで見掛けたスーパー耐久のS2000まで。
入口では2017年にGT Awardを受賞し、Gran Turismoへの収録が確定しているPhilipのEGがRaysブースに陣取る。早く収録されると良いね。
ホンダだけではない。伝統のCalsonicブルーにペイントされたRaulのHR31も大量のホンダ車に囲まれてはいるもののその存在感を強烈だ。
■Chapter.3
そして、今回最も見たかったクルマがJonnyのFK8だ。グローバル共通ボディとなった久々のシビック。そのFK8のカスタマイズに早期に取り掛かったのがJonnyだった。
FK8のイメージカラーのブルーだが、Jonnyのこのカラーリングはラッピングによるものだ。
ホイールはRays、Titan7、と一通り近代ホンダチューニングの定番を履き、今回のタイミングで復刻されたDesmondのRegamasterに変更された。しかもただ単に懐古主義にRegamasterをチョイスするわけではなく、一般的なRegamasterのイメージを覆すグロスブラックにペイントされた。デザインの方向性的に近未来的なFK8のルックスとのバランスが取れている。
置き物のようなTrack Stanceとも異なり、実際に速い、速そうに見せるさじ加減が絶妙だ。
日本だと、どうにも”too much”なやり過ぎてしまう例が少なくないだけに、”瞬足”的な速そうなクルマ造りが増えてくれると良いんだけどね。
サーキットでも速く、StaticなShowでも栄える。Masuda-kunのFitがまさにそうだったようにね。
