It was the third year of Oura86meet this year. I have been coming this event with 4AG CLUB since the first year. Oura is a city in Gunma prefecture but not many people recognize this city, even people form Gunma don’t know.
The reason why it happens here is that a shop called CAR PEACE who has the famous USDM Yellow Corolla GT-S locates in Oura. And CARPEACE owner Sakurai-san is a member of citizen association who run this event.
More and more people sing up every year and it became one of the famous AE86 event in Kanto area.
■New Silent Generation
Back in the day Hachiroku were affordable drifting car for young generation. Lots of drivers started their career with Hachiroku and most of them were beat up battle cars coz they spent money for tires and oil, not for fixing the dents or broken bumpers. In that way, Nerimadaikon and Saitama-giken are doing it right. Their DIY brush painted body and bent fenders might be the formal dress for Hachiroku. One of the member from Nerimadaikon Levinosuke-kun showed up with Hachiroku trailer. This body was originally from Sawa-san’s which rolled over at Gnnsai in 2016.
However, according to them they prefer prettier to drive Hachiroku. They were checking out all the legends’ Hachiroku very hard at the meet. Hopefully those young generation carry the Hachiroku custom in the future.
■Generation X
Usually it points at people who were born in 1960 to 1979. But let’s talk about those who born before 1983 the year AE86 was born. Of cause those people who are in this generation have more spare financial resources than young people, but They also got skills in their hands. In Japan “Touji-fuu”(Old school flavor) is becoming a trend but Major Force isn’t one of them. They are actual Old school guys. Since they all got red cars people think they are a team but they are not. In 1980s young kids goes to a same high school started to numbering their selves. They inspired by a record label called MAJOR FORCE where Japanese hip hop group SDP was in. Major Force 01 Masaya-san’s Trueno haven’t been driven for a while. It looks like it was time traveled from the old days.
And this year Major Force 00 Yamada-san’s N2 look Levin showed up. Since Taku-san from 4AG club stopped using N2 fenders, He is one of the rear guy who actually race N2 look car around.
■One and only
AE86 has Levin and Trueno(GTS) variations. But There is no other car which can gather this amount of cars and people from all the ages with just one model. Corvett, Mustang, Skyline, Civic, RX7, and Silvia none of the car has this much culture with just one model. Maybe Old school VW Beetle, but AE86 is one of the special model like that for sure.
邑楽86Meetsも今年で3年目。第1回からヨンエイジクラブに帯同するカタチで撮影をしているが、邑楽という地名に馴染みのない人とっては、群馬県在住の人ですらその名は知らない。
何故そのような街で開催されているのかと言うと、多数のカーショーでアワードを獲得しているイエローのCorolla GT-Sを制作したCAR PEACEが店を構える場所こそが邑楽なのだ。そのCAR PEACE代表のSakurai-sanを中心とした邑楽商工会が主催をする街興しイベントというわけだ。
年々参加台数は増え続け今年は250台を超えた。AE86のオーナーにとって無くてはならない人気イベントとなった。
■New Silent Generation
若い世代の代表というと語弊があるかもしれないが、金銭的余裕の無さから導かれるものなのか「ハチロクの正しい使い方をしている」という評価が多い、練馬大根と埼玉技研。
お世辞にもキレイとは言い難い刷毛塗り塗装だったり、外装部品がボロボロだったりもするけれど、本来ハチロクはこうやって乗るものなんだぜという心意気。
今年は練馬大根のLevinosuke-kunがハチロクトレーラーを製作。
2016年に群馬サイクルスポーツセンターで開催された走行会にて、ヨンエイジクラブのSawa-sanが横転をした個体のリヤセクションを再利用したものだ。
Levinosuke-kunがトレーラーを作るという噂話を事前に聞いてはいたが、開催1週間前の時点では”未だSawa-sanの切り身”の状態だった。会場に現れたその姿はきちんと自らのアイデンティティであるホワイトにブルーのストライプを入れる塗装まで仕上げるクオリティーの高さだ。寧ろトレーラーのクォーターの方が自身のクルマよりもキレイという状態。
ひとまず、現時点では道路交通法に関して勉強中のようだ・・・
しかし、そんな彼らもいつか綺麗なハチロクに乗りたいという願望はあるようで、職人達の手業のスキルは着実に若い世代に受け継がれているように見える。
■Generation X
1960年から1979年までに産まれていた世代を指すが、大きく括ってAE86が誕生する1983年よりも前の世代としよう。主にこのジェネレーションのオーナーの個体は格別に手の込んだ個体が多い。若い世代と比較してクルマに欠けられる資金が豊富なのは間違いない。しかし金銭的余裕だけでなく、自らの手を使ったスキルも持ち合わせている。
近年エンジンベイまでCleanなホットロッド的なモディファイを施すカスタム例が年を追うごとに増えてきている。
対照的に、現役当時のまま年を重ねているコミュニティも存在する。
昨今日本ではトレンドとなりつつある”当時風”といったレトロオマージュとは一線を画す集団がMajor Forceだ。カラーリングが赤で統一されているので、一見するとチームのように見えるがチームではない。
1980年代に同じ高校に通う同級生同士が、日本のヒップホップグループ”スチャダラパー”が在籍していた伝説的なレーベル名にインスパイアされ、「各々ナンバリングして連番にしたらカッコいいかもね」といったノリで始まった友情が30年近く継続している。
そのMajor Forceの重鎮でもあるMajor Force 01ことMasaya-sanのトレノは、昨今あまりクルマを動かす事は無く完全に歴史が止まっている。
昨年の邑楽86Meetsから実に1年ぶりにエンジンに火が入ったのだが、その姿はまるで土壁の納屋で保管していたかのような砂ぼこりでパックされた姿が実に強烈だ。
そして今年はMajor Force 00ことN2フェンダーを装着したYamada-sanのLevinも揃った。
ヨンエイジクラブのTaku-sanがN2ルックを止めた事もあり、現存する”走るN2″としてはとても貴重な個体だ。
近年、Major Forceの赤い3台が揃うのは邑楽86Meetsだけだ。走行会ともなると入念な準備が必要になるし、8月6日にわざわざ遠出するのも億劫になってしまう人達にとっては、栃木、埼玉、群馬からのアクセスが良いという事が邑楽に寄り付く一つの要因なのかもしれない。
■他のメイクスにはない魅力
LevinとTrueno(GTS)という2バリエーションはあるものの、単独の型式名称でこれだけの台数、スタイル、ヒトとヒトの絆で結ばれているクルマは国内外探してもハチロク以外存在しない。
コルベット、マスタング、スカイライン、シビック、RX7、シルビア、を見ても1つの型式だけでのAE86ほどの濃密なカルチャーは構築されていない。強いてあげるならば空冷VW Beetleだけだろう。
もはやAE86という存在はカスタムカーという世界だけでなく、自動車史においても孤高な存在なのである。
