2019 Gumball Greece:Mykonos to Spain:Ibiza was unveiled at the winning ceremony for 2018 Gumball. Mykonos is 2017’s goal, and Ibiza is 2014’s goal. Both place are ideal place for Gumball. Note: Gumball’s winner=Sprit of Gumball doesn’t go to the fastest team. It goes to the most iconic team in the rally. This years Sprit of Gumball went to Team Demon(Dubai) who got in to lots of machine trouble but made it to Tokyo. 1000hp Demon did a big donut and left thick black mark at bonded area Aomi as “demon’s scars”.
■In the early years
You can not talk about Gumball 3000 without The third year(2001) which MTV Jackass 1989 Jaguer XJ6 ran London to Russia then back to London. Many entrant missed the rout and they had to ran through the night to made it to check points. *On the way back to London, due to a security problem, they couldn’t go back to London, then organizer set the goal at Beaulieu National Motor Museum. In these days when there was no Google Map, GPS navigator, there was many entrants got lost during the rally. It made Gumball famous in all over the world.
■Celebrities
There are many celebrities have entered Gumball history. This year, there were Usher, Dallas Austin, Jillionaire(Maior Lazer), and Bun B entered the rally. In early year when Tony Hawk, XZIBIT, Jon Olson, and Deadmau5 were in the rally, we could call it was a golden era. Especially Jon Olson wasn’t just a super car freak. He brought one off prototype cars and Original custom cars like RS6. He knows how to entertain spectators very well. In that way, 2014 Miami 2 Ibiza was one of the most Gumballest Gumball. I would like to see him in Gumball again.
■Now days
In the real life world, they have to take compliance seriously now days. There are many country don’t welcome Gumball or want to put a leading car. Some people say it’s not gumball anymore. I understand why they say that, however, could you say the same thing after seeing those cars went through all the way from London to Tokyo. I know there is a fact that in Japanese section, some of the entrants drove rental cars or MBJ, Audi, Aston martin commercial cars. If you think of those 10 days, all the entrants spend the time together like a big family, 5 to 8million yen entrance fee seems reasonable.
Of cause there is a pyramid in the Gumball, and some of them have to leave the rally if their business don’t go well. Once a year, only a handful of people can have Gumball experience.
■London to Tokyo
Usually Tokyonur wouldn’t shoot a part of event. I know I have to follow from the prep because there is always drama behind the scene. However, this time here in #Tokyo, this mysterious car culture which might not going to happen again I had to feature.
In the goal spot which is completely secret for public, there were many car enthusiasts from the industry. 2017 Gumball entrant/Motorhead magazine editor Takada-san, S&Company Shikata-san, Maruo-san, Teru-san, and Luke. It would be impossible for me to go on Gumball but I want to connect with it somehow.
